UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE

SATURDAY RESULT

Entebbe UPPC FC 0-1 Vipers SC

Defending champions Vipers Sports Club got their 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) campaign underway with a tight but priceless 1-0 win over Entebbe UPPC at the Bugonga Fisheries Ground on Saturday, November 1.

Watambala the Difference

Midfielder Karim Watambala delivered the decisive moment in the 62nd minute — timing his run perfectly to gather a neat through-ball from hard-working forward Yunus Sentamu and slot home at the near post after a swift counter.

It was a goal born of experience and a killer instinct in transition.

Entebbe Stand Their Ground

But this was no walk in the park.

Entebbe UPPC — buoyed by two wins in their opening four games — played fearlessly. Their structure, organisation and work-rate kept the champions honest all afternoon.

Former Vipers forward Isa Bugembe almost punished his old club late on, only for goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza to make a crucial reflex save — the moment that ultimately secured him the Man of the Match plaudits.

Hard-Earned — But Vital

For Vipers, this was more resilience than rhythm. They arrived in Entebbe having fallen behind on fixtures due to their recent continental engagements, and the champions were under pressure to show that their title defence is alive and locked in.

Watambala’s goal — and the three points — settle early nerves.

The Venoms lift themselves off the bottom to 13th on three points, while Entebbe drop a slot to 8th, remaining on seven.

Focus Shifts to the Big One

Attention now turns to next Friday at Kitende — a blockbuster early-season clash against KCCA FC — where coach Ivan Jacky Minnaert’s side will need both performance and efficiency to keep their momentum rising.
