RESULT – MATCHDAY 30

Vipers SC 1-1 Soltilo Bright Stars

Vipers Sports Club were officially crowned 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) Champions in front of a jubilant home crowd at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday, May 24 evening.

The Venoms, who had already sealed the title in the previous matchday with a crucial 2-0 away victory over Kitara FC, played out a 1-1 stalemate against Soltilo Bright Stars on the final day – a result that had no bearing on their title status.

Despite trailing midway through the second half, the champions showed character to fight back. John Kokas Alou gave the visitors a surprise lead in the 62nd minute, capitalising on a defence-splitting pass from Nelson Senkatuka to chip over Jack Komakech.

Restoring normalcy

But just six minutes later, Allan Okello calmly converted from the spot after Andrew Kyambadde was penalised for a handball inside the area.

It was Okello’s 19th goal of the campaign, earning him the Golden Boot ahead of URA FC’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe (16 goals).

The Venoms created a flurry of chances throughout the tie with Okello, Yunus Sentamu, Karim Watambala, and Isaac Ogwang all testing goalkeeper Sanon Mulabi, who was in inspired form for Bright Stars.

When the final whistle sounded, Vipers closed the season on 69 points, two ahead of runners-up NEC FC, clinching their seventh league title (2010, 2015, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2025).

Presidential handshake

The crowning moment was followed by a grand celebration ceremony led by Club President Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, who awarded the team a cash bonus of UGX 200M, with an additional UGX 5M handed to Allan Okello for his individual goal-scoring heroics.

The title party was spiced up by musical performances from Ssuuna Ben, Mbaziira Tony, Karole Kasita, Diamond Oscar and Kabako, who lit up Kitende under the lights.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The Venoms now shift focus to the Stanbic Uganda Cup final against KCCA FC on Saturday, May 31 at the FUFA Kadiba Stadium.

Victory will secure a historic domestic double for the Kitende-based side.
