Thursday’s Result

Maroons FC 0-1 Vipers SC

Vipers Sports Club had to dig deep into their reserves of grit and resilience to edge past a spirited Maroons FC side 1-0 in a tense StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) clash at Luzira Prisons Grounds on Thursday afternoon.

The narrow but crucial win saw the Venoms stretch their lead at the summit to 59 points after 25 matches—eight ahead of second-placed NEC FC, who face Mbale Heroes FC next.

Okello Delivers Again

After a cagey first half, the breakthrough arrived just two minutes into the second stanza. The lively Allan Okello kept his nerve from the penalty spot after defender Edward Kabona was penalised for a handball in the area.

The goal was Okello’s 17th of the season – a tally that keeps him at the top of the SUPL scoring charts, five goals clear of URA FC’s Ivan Ahimbisibwe.

The moment sparked relief for Vipers, who had found Maroons’ backline – marshalled by the experienced Seif Batte and Hudu Mulikyi – a tough nut to crack.

Close Shave Late On

Maroons nearly stole a point in the 87th minute when substitute Norman Odipio unleashed a thunderbolt from range that rattled the crossbar with goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza well beaten.

But the Venoms held firm, grinding out their 18th win of the campaign in 25 outings.

All Eyes on Kitende

Next up for the Venoms is a return under the lights at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on April 29th, where they will host UPDF FC in another high-stakes league tie.

Coach Fred Muhumuza’s men have shown they can win with flair—or with fight. Either way, the title charge remains firmly on course.
