Vipers SC have opened the 2026/27 season with silverware after overcoming Kitara FC to lift the Uganda Super Cup and further underline their ambition for the new campaign.
The reigning Uganda Premier League champions showed their quality against Uganda Cup winners Kitara, producing a composed and authoritative performance to secure the first trophy of the season.
Odili Chukwuma put the Venoms in front, but Kitara restored parity shortly after the restart through Martin Kizza.
Vipers responded in champions’ fashion, refusing to allow the momentum to shift. Karim Watambala struck to put the Venoms back in front before Gusto Mulongo added a third to put the result beyond doubt.
The victory adds another trophy to Vipers’ collection and provides a strong start to the new campaign as the club targets further success on both the domestic and continental fronts.
For head coach Denis Lavagne, the triumph is a landmark achievement. Having taken charge less than two months ago, the Frenchman has already delivered his first piece of silverware with the Venoms.
The Super Cup also serves as another reminder of Vipers’ consistency at the top of Ugandan football. After securing the league title last season, the Venoms have wasted no time in adding another major domestic honour.
Attention now turns to the CAF Champions League, where Vipers will carry Uganda’s flag, while Kitara prepare for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
