StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) champions Vipers SC are delighted to announce the signing of Uganda Cranes midfielder Joel Sserunjogi on a three-year contract.
The highly-rated 24-year-old joins the Venoms from KCCA FC as one of the club’s marquee acquisitions ahead of the new season, further reinforcing an already formidable squad preparing to defend the Uganda Premier League (UPL) crown, CECAFA Kagame Cup, challenge for the Stanbic Uganda Cup and compete in the CAF Champions League.

Recognised as one of Uganda’s most intelligent and accomplished midfielders, Sserunjogi arrives at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende with an impressive reputation built on composure, vision, tactical discipline and the ability to influence games from both ends of midfield.
Statement of Ambition
The acquisition underlines Vipers SC’s continued commitment to recruiting the very best talent available as the club pursues sustained success both domestically and on the African stage.
Sserunjogi has steadily developed into one of the country’s standout midfielders since joining KCCA FC in 2023, earning admiration for his exceptional passing range, work ethic, positional awareness and calmness under pressure.

Capable of dictating the tempo of matches while contributing defensively and offensively, the midfielder is expected to add creativity, balance and leadership to the Venoms’ engine room.
Built on Hard Work
Sserunjogi’s rise through Ugandan football has been defined by perseverance and consistent excellence.
After honing his talent through the local football ranks, he featured for Kajjansi United before announcing himself on the National stage during the Buganda Masaza Cup.
His influential displays helped Busiro capture their historic maiden Masaza Cup title in 2022, earning him widespread recognition and paving the way for his move to KCCA FC a year later.

At Lugogo, Sserunjogi quickly established himself among the UPL’s finest midfielders, producing a series of commanding performances that attracted both National team recognition and interest from clubs across the region.
He leaves KCCA after three impressive seasons in which he made over 100 appearances.
Enterprising Midfielder
His impressive club form earned him his maiden Uganda Cranes call-up in 2024.
Since then, Sserunjogi has featured in Uganda’s FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and was part of the Cranes squad that reached the quarter-finals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), further cementing his status as one of the country’s brightest midfield talents.
Recommendation That Became Reality
The move also reflects the collaborative approach within Vipers’ new technical setup.
Assistant Coach John “Ayala” Luyinda, who has closely followed Sserunjogi’s development over the years, strongly recommended the midfielder to newly appointed Head Coach Denis Lavagne as the club assessed options to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Convinced by both the player’s qualities and consistency, Lavagne endorsed the move as Vipers continue assembling a squad capable of competing for honours on every front.
Speaking after the signing, Denis Lavagne said:
“Joel is a player with intelligence, personality and great technical quality.
“John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda spoke very highly of him and, after studying his qualities, it was clear he possesses the attributes we want in this team. He will add balance and creativity to our midfield, and we are delighted to welcome him to Vipers SC.”
Following Instinct
Sserunjogi expressed his delight after completing the move to Kitende.
“I’m somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it’s steered me in the right direction so far,” said the new signing.

“So, I don’t think it’s going to be any different here. I think it’s going to be a great success and I’m really happy to be here.”
The midfielder now joins a Vipers side eager to build on last season’s success while taking significant strides in continental football under Lavagne’s leadership.
Ready For Next Chapter
With experience, maturity and an ever-growing influence for both club and country, Sserunjogi arrives at Vipers at the perfect stage of his career.
His signing adds further depth, quality and competition to the champions’ midfield department as preparations intensify for another demanding campaign.

Everyone at Vipers Sports Club warmly welcomes Joel Sserunjogi to the Venoms family and wishes him every success in red and black.
Welcome to Kitende, Joel!
