STANBIC UGANDA CUP

SATURDAY’S RESULT

KITARA FC 0-1 VIPERS SC (Agg: 0-2)

Vipers Sports Club continued their impressive run of form by booking a place in the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup final with a gritty 1-0 win over defending champions Kitara FC on Saturday, May 17 afternoon at the Butema Royal Park Grounds in Hoima.

Midfielder Abdul-Karim Watambala’s composed finish in the second half proved decisive, sealing a 2-0 aggregate win for the Venoms, who had earlier claimed a narrow first-leg victory courtesy of a late Yunus Sentamu strike at Kitende.

Big Moment

In a game of high stakes and intense pressure, Watambala rose to the occasion. In the 46th minute, he pounced past Kitara goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima after being set up by Abubakali Walusimbi, whose vision and weight of pass split the Kitara defence wide open. The goal deflated the hosts and gave Vipers the breathing space they needed.

Resolute at the Back

Kitara, buoyed by a packed home crowd, came out with intent, pushing for a way back into the tie. But Vipers’ defensive unit, marshalled by goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu, Hilary Mukundane, Livingstone Mulondo, Rogers Torach and Derrick Ndahiro stood tall.

Kiggundu pulled off a string of excellent saves to deny Patrick Kaddu, David Ndihabwe, Living Kabon, and substitute Moses Sseruyidde.

Gusto Mulongo could have put the game to bed late on, but his volley flew just over the bar after another sublime assist from Okello.

March Into Final

This result marks Vipers’ third victory over Kitara in one week—adding to a 2-0 league win in Hoima—and sends them to their second Uganda Cup final in three seasons.

The Venoms have lifted the trophy three times before (2016, 2020, and 2023), and now eye a fourth title.

Kadiba Showdown

Vipers will now face eternal rivals KCCA FC in a blockbuster Uganda Cup final set for May 31 at the newly constructed FUFA Kadiba Stadium in Kampala.

KCCA cruised past Kataka FC in the other semi-final, winning 3-0 at Lugogo and backing it up with a one-all stalemate in Mbale in the second leg.

What a week it has been for Vipers, who also earlier sealed their seventh StarTimes Uganda Premier League title.

The Uganda Cup final, too, promises fireworks as the two giants clash for silverware and bragging rights.
