UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Tuesday’s Result
Vipers SC 1-0 UPDF FC
Vipers Sports Club inched ever close to a seventh StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) title after grinding out a narrow 1-0 victory over a stubborn UPDF FC side at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday night.

The result stretched the Venoms’ lead at the top to 62 points after 26 matches, eight clear of second-placed NEC FC, who face Mbarara City FC on Wednesday evening at Kakyeeka stadium.
Mulongo Makes The Difference
Despite a flurry of missed chances, it was substitute Gusto Mulongo who proved the hero, reacting fastest to a rebound after UPDF goalkeeper Richard Anyama spilled a ferocious Allan Okello free-kick in the 82nd minute.

The goal was enough to secure Vipers’ 19th win of the campaign, the most by any side this season.
Vipers could have led much earlier, with Allan Okello, skipper Milton Karisa, Abdul Karim Watambala, and Yunus Sentamu all spurning glorious opportunities. Karisa’s early header from a Moses Waiswa free-kick went begging, while Sentamu was twice denied by Anyama’s bravery in goal.

Frustration Before Relief
Despite their dominance, the Venoms found UPDF’s low block and counter-attacking resolve hard to break. Okello came closest before the goal, firing just wide after a spill from the keeper.

In the end, it was Mulongo’s predatory instincts that made the difference, sending the home crowd into raptures and keeping Vipers firmly on the title trail.
Eyes On Double
Next up, Vipers return to action in the Uganda Cup semi-final first leg under the floodlights at Kitende against Kitara FC. Coach Fred Muhumuza’s men are showing they can win tough – and win smart. The dream of a domestic double is well and truly alive.
