UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Thursday’s Result
Vipers SC 1-0 Lugazi FC
Vipers SC needed grit and grind to return to winning ways in the Startimes Uganda Premier League with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Lugazi FC at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende under the Thursday floodlights.
The victory, secured by a solitary Karim Watambala goal, sent the Venoms five points clear at the top of the table, with 55 points, momentarily five ahead of second-placed NEC FC.

Vipers SC, despite dominating possession and creating multiple chances, struggled to break the deadlock across both halves. On several occasions, the outstanding goalkeeping of Juma Mutebi bailed out Lugazi FC.
Forward Isaac Ogwang was particularly denied twice by Mutebi, who was in fine form between the posts. The goalkeeper then stepped in to deny Allan Okello, Watambala in the first half and Enock Luyima.

The opposition backline was then called into action to block goal-bound efforts from Yunus Sentamu, Okello and the bright Pedro Honjo Sukuya. The dominant but unlucky Venoms were also thrice denied by the woodwork on either side of the half.
It was not until the 66th minute that Watambala marked his return from suspension in style, unleashing a powerful strike from outside the box to beat Mutebi and secure maximum points.

With the victory, Vipers will now look ahead to a trip to Express FC at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on April 11th, as we continue the pursuit of the seventh Uganda Premier League championship.
