UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Saturday’s Result
SC Villa 1-0 Vipers SC
Vipers SC suffered just their second Uganda Premier League defeat of the season, falling 1-0 to SC Villa at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.
It marked the first loss since coach John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda joined the Venoms last year. Our other defeat came at the start of the season, as NEC FC beat us 3-1 at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Meanwhile, at Wankulukuku, Charles Lwanga scored the lone goal of the game, coming towards the end of the first half.
The result meant Vipers are top of the table with 49 points, two ahead of NEC FC who are at 47 with nine games to play.
On the other hand, SC Villa, who are also the defending champions, moved up to seventh place on 30 points.
Earlier in the game, Vipers made first half efforts to take the lead, but Yunus Sentamu was twice denied by goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.
As we chased the game to salvage at least a point, Allan Okello was nearly gifted by the Villa backline, but his header lacked power to trouble Kibirige.
The Venoms will now seek to make quick amends on Thursday, as they host Lugazi FC, at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende floodlights.
