In their Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 bout, Vipers SC will play host to Fufa Big League outfit Blacks Power FC at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende this Wednesday under the floodlights.
This will extend the Venoms’ bid for a second domestic double and the fourth Uganda Cup trophy in the club’s history. We also top proceedings in the Uganda Premier League with 49 points.
To reach this round, Vipers SC eliminated Mbarara City FC, following a comfortable 2-0 victory at the St. Mary’s Stadium, with Yunus Sentamu and Allan Okello on target.
In the Round of 64, the Venoms had edged Tepa FC 2-1, courtesy of a brace by experienced and versed defender Livingstone Mulondo.
On the other hand, Blacks Power, under the stewardship of Bob Obira, stunned NEC FC at the Round of 32 after a 1-0 victory.
That was after they had received a bye in the Round of 64, as lower league side Soroti Thunder FC failed to show up for the affair.
Blacks Power are second on the table in the Fufa Big League with 31 points having played 16 games and are four points behind leaders Buhimba United Saints FC who have played more two games (18).
The two sides have met in the League before with the Venoms victors on two occasions, winning away in Lira at the Akii-Bua stadium 1-0 thanks to Ashraf Mandela’s solely goal and 2-0 at the St Mary’s stadium with Karim Ndugwa and Martin Kizza on the score-sheet.
The last time Vipers won the Uganda Cup was in the 2022/23 campaign, when they beat Police FC 1-0, thanks to skipper Milton Karisa lonely goal.
