UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Friday’s Result
Vipers SC 1-0 Wakiso Giants FC
Vipers SC managed a hardly fought 1-0 victory over neighbours Wakiso Giants FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Friday, under the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende floodlights.
Young forward Kenneth Kimera’s solitary goal was enough for the Venoms to sink the spirited Purple Sharks, and claim maximum points at home turf.

Against his former team, Kimera netted his first goal in the Vipers colors in the 55th minute, brilliantly lobbing the ball past the on-rushing James Alitho, following an exquisite long pass from Frank Katongole.
The result strengthened Vipers’ lead on the table, having moved to 49 points, five ahead of second-placed NEC FC, with 20 matches played.

It also made it eight victories on the bounce for the Kitende-based team in the League. After five matches in the second round, Vipers are yet to drop a point. To add, Vipers have kept eight successive clean-sheets in the League.
The recent clean-sheets have largely been a work of the solid defensive displays by the back-four, but also, the heroics of goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza.

Against Wakiso Giants, the custodian was called into action numerous times, notably superbly saving from Hudson Mbalire and Rahmat Ssenfuka in the second half.
On the evening, Vipers also missed a number of goal-scoring opportunities, with Yunus Sentamu and Allan Okello denied by James Alitho in the 52nd and 73rd minute, respectively.

The team will not return to Uganda Premier League action until the end of the international break, when they visit holders SC Villa on March 29, at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
However, Vipers will be involved in the Stanbic Uganda Cup on Wednesday, March 19th, when they host FUFA Big League table leaders Blacks Power FC in the Round of 16.
