UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE

Sunday’s Result

Vipers SC 1-0 Mbarara City FC

Vipers SC managed a crucial 1-0 victory over Mbarara City FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende floodlights on Sunday.

The victory extended the Venoms point-tally to 43 after 18 matches, three ahead of second-placed NEC FC, who beat Lugazi FC 2-0 on Saturday.

Allan Okello’s solitary strike from the spot was enough to give the Venoms a smile in a week that was marred with sadness following the passing on of our star Abubakar Lawal.

Meanwhile, the scoreline didn’t tell the exact tale as Vipers should have won with a bigger margin with the mammoth of goal-scoring opportunities created.

In the 17th minute, Okello’s goal bound effort from a free-kick was denied by a brilliant Abdul Kimera save.

Yunus Sentamu and Moses Waiswa also came close but were both denied by timely blocks from the opposition backline.

In the 45th minute, Kenneth Kimera thought he had scored, but his powerful header was met with a superb Abdul Kimera save.

Substitutes Issa Bugembe and Mohamed Salem Ekbad were both denied by brilliant saves from Kimera.

Vipers will return to Uganda Premier League action this week on Thursday, as they visit Police FC at the Kavumba Recreation Center.
