Vipers SC 2-0 Mbarara City FC

Vipers SC sailed into the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Mbarara City FC at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende floodlights on Thursday.

Allan Okello and Yunus Sentamu were on the scoresheet on the evening, to keep the charge for a domestic double alive.

Sentamu broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, expertly heading in a brilliant long pass from Hilary Mukundane past goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.

That was after Annest Ankunda’s 18th minute goal got denied by the linesman for an offside call. At the stroke of halftime, Ankunda yet again found the back of the net, but it was canceled for a foul in the build-up.

In the second half, Okello sealed the business with a stunning free-kick past Kimera, following a foul on Mukundane outside the box.

Vipers nearly added on the day’s tally, but each of Karim Watambala and substitutes Kenneth Kimera along with Abubakali Walusimbi, could not find the back of the net.

Meanwhile, Mbarara City were also presented with a couple of chances, which forward Henry Kitegenyi and Paul Busolo failed to tuck away.

Following the win, Vipers will be back in action against the same opponent, but in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025.
