UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Tuesday’s Result
Vipers SC 2-0 URA FC
Vipers SC tightened their grip on the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table, following a largely comfortable 2-0 victory over URA FC at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday.
The result took the Venoms to 37 points at the summit, four ahead of current runners-up NEC FC, who take on fourth-placed KCCA FC on Thursday.
Playmaker Allan Okello, who captained the side in the absence of the injured Milton Karisa, scored once, with young left-back Enock Luyima sealing the victory against the Tax Collectors under the floodlights.
Okello brilliantly struck from the spot in the 53rd minute past Rogers Omedwa after substitute Kenneth Kimera was brought down in the box by Faizo Matovu. Kimera came on in the second half for debutant Isaac Ogwang, who left the first stanza injured.
In the 74th minute, Luyima doubled and sealed the win, with a sumptuously struck pile-driver into the top left corner after a lay-off from the impactful Kimera.
Kimera himself had just been denied by a brilliant Omedwa save in the 69th minute, following a swift attack led by Okello and Yunus Sentamu.
Vipers should have won by a bigger scoreline, but the likes of Ogwang, Karim Watambala and substitute Issa Bugembe could not find the back of the net.
The victory meant that Vipers have avoided defeat in each of their last 15 games in the Uganda Premier League, winning 11 and drawing four.
It also meant that the Venoms have completed a successive double over URA, by an identical 2-0 scoreline, dating back to the 2022-2023 campaign.
