Vipers SC took the lion’s share of call-ups among the 16 Uganda Premier League sides, after seven members of the team got selected to the Uganda Cranes team for the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
Uganda will take on Burundi on December 26th and 29th with both games slated for the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo to round off the qualifiers.
Defenders Derrick Ndahiro, Rogers Torach and Hilary Mukundane are the members of our backline that received the call from Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put, after their excellent shows this season.
Midfielders Abdul Karim Watambala, Paul Patrick Mbowa, Allan Okello and skipper Milton Karisa were also rewarded with call-ups for their fine run of performances this campaign.
Ndahiro has played seven games, recording one assist, while Rogers Torach has chipped in with one goal in 11 appearances. Mukundane and Mbowa have played 11 and 12 times, respectively, excelling in their roles.
Watambala has played 12 times and assisted twice, and his tale has been one of a tireless workaholic. Karisa has scored five goals with two assists, while Okello is the joint leading goal goal-scorer this season with eight goals and an assist.
Meanwhile, Uganda, along with Kenya and Tanzania have already sealed qualification as hosts, but the game could secure a spot for the Burundians.
It should be noted that the CHAN finals are scheduled to take place between February 1st to 28th.
