Saturday’s Result

Vipers SC 2-1 SC Villa

Vipers SC picked an important and impressive 2-1 victory over champions SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League encounter at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Saturday.

Goals from talisman Yunus Sentamu and defender Rogers Torach handed the Venoms the all-important three points. Hakim Kiwanuka netted the visitors’ consolation.

Kiwanuka put Villa ahead in the 36th minute with a powerful fine finish inside the area after racing past Enock Luyima.

Two minutes later, defender Edward Masembe carelessly gave away the ball for Milton Karisa to put Sentamu through to level matters with a brilliant tap-in.

Ten minutes into the second half, Torach gave the hosts the lead, as he threw his body on the line to make contact with the ball in the forest of bodies.

Villa nearly responded right away through Francis Onekalit but his touch off Kiwanuka’s delivery went straight to Denis Kiggundu’s safe palms.

Vipers could easily have sealed the victory through Karisa and Sentamu but they were not lethal enough to kill the chances that presented later in the game.

The victory takes Vipers to seven points in fourth position while Villa stick to six points in eighth after four games.

Shortly after the international break, Vipers will take on Wakiso Giants at Kabaka Kyabaggu on Thursday, October 17.
