FUFA SUPER 8 TOURNAMENT
Tuesay’s Result
NEC FC 1-1 Vipers SC
Vipers SC stormed the semifinals of the Fufa Super 8 tournament, following their 1-1 stalemate with NEC FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday.
The draw implied that Vipers got the better of the Diehards courtesy of a superior away goals advantage, after the two tied at 1-1 over two legs.
The first leg at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on August 2 had ended in a scoreless stalemate.
Meanwhile, captain Milton Karisa scored the all-important goal that ensured our passage to the last four.
Karisa’s goal, off a defensive mistake from NEC captain Ibrahim Kiyemba, came at the stroke of halftime, following an evenly contested first 45 minutes.
The hosts returned to the second stanza in search of a leveler, launching a number of attacks, yet our custodian Jack Komakech stood imperiously stout, to deny them passage on over four occasions.
It took over 80 minutes for Komakech to get breached, as substitute Dickson Niwamanya headed NEC’s equaliser, after a cross from Geriga Atendele.
Vipers could still have won it, but Allan Okello struck high a Karisa cutback, while substitute Kenneth Kimera hit the side-net, to leave it leveled.
The Venoms will now take on the Uganda Cranes Select Team, who eliminated Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa.
