Vipers SC rounded off the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League campaign with a resounding 4-1 victory over Mbarara City FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.
The win was however, not enough for the Venoms to defend the championship, as SC Villa clinched after their 2-0 triumph over NEC FC.
Vipers thus finished third with 56 points on the league table, one behind champions Villa.
Meanwhile, goals from Karim Watambala, Abubakar Lawal and a Milton Karisa brace were enough to guide the six-time Uganda Premier League champions to the victory.
Karisa opened the scoring in the 16th minute, with a close range finish off a cross from Allan Okello.
Two minutes to the half-hour mark, Karisa added another with another tap-in after brilliant solo effort from Yunus Sentamu.
Six minutes later, Watambala struck a third off another Okello assist to round off a superb first-half.
Off the bench, Lawal wrapped the rout with a simple finish following a headed pass from fellow substitute Rodriguez Shamamba.
