STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE

Wednesday’s Result

Vipers SC 1-0 Express FC

Vipers SC moved to the top of the Uganda Premier League table after a hugely important 1-0 victory over Express FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

Skipper Milton Karisa grabbed the all-crucial goal to move the Venoms to 49 points ahead of BUL FC on goal difference.

Kitara FC, who are third, have 48 points, which is the same tally as the fourth-placed record holders, SC Villa.

Karisa netted in the first-half off a superb Yunus Sentamu low cross to tap home from close range.

The first-half could have witnessed a bigger scoreline for Vipers but Sentamu, Allan Okello and Karisa were all denied.

Into the second half, Express nearly got a leveller, but Dauson Mafumu’s freekick crashed against the crossbar.

Midfielder Abdul Karim Watambala should have made it two for the hosts, but he struck wide a penalty, after Sentamu had been brought down by goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.

There were more opportunities for Vipers to add to their tally, but Karisa missed twice after being set by Sentamu and substitute Erick Kenzo Kambale.

Vipers will return to action on Saturday with a visit to the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo against NEC FC.
