STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE

Wednesday’s Result

BUL FC 1-0 Vipers SC

Vipers SC dropped a massively needed three points to BUL FC in a 1-0 defeat, in the fight to retain the Uganda Premier League title for a third successive season.

Jeromy Kirya struck for BUL in the first of the two test matches at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on May 1 (Labour Day).

The result left the Venoms third on the log with 46 points in 25 matches. We sit three points adrift of leaders BUL and one behind second-placed Kitara FC.

However, the challengers have both played a game more than Vipers, which gives the latter a chance to leapfrog them should they win their game in hand.

Meanwhile, on an evening to forget at Namboole, Vipers nearly went ahead in the third minute of the game, but Fumador Asiwome struck on the crossbar from a rebound after goalkeeper Tom Ikara had fumbled Allan Okello’s shot.

After falling behind to Kirya’s 26th-minute goal, Richard Wasswa’s charges probed for openings, albeit, with little ease against the defensive opponents.

Abubakar Lawal and Ashraf Mandela all missed decent opportunities in the latter stages of the game as it ended in defeat.

Vipers will continue the pursuit for glory in their next game, as they host Express FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday May 8th under the lights.
