UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Friday’s Result
Kitara FC 0-2 Vipers SC
Six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC did themselves proud in the race to the championship after a hugely important victory over Kitara FC on Friday.
The Venoms smiled to a hardly fought and deserved 2-0 win over the Royals at the Masindi Stadium.
An own-goal from Donato Okello and one from Nigerian Abubakar Lawal sealed three massive points for the Kitende outfit.
The result completed revenge for Vipers, who only days back, suffered elimination from the Stanbic Uganda Cup, at the hands of Kitara via post-match penalties, as it had ended in a 2-2 draw after 120 minutes.
The win also took the Richard Wasswa-coached side to the apex of the log, having accumulated 45 points in 23 matches. Kitara are second with 44 points.
BUL FC and SC Villa, who have played 23 and 22 games are second and third, with 43 and 41 points, respectively.
On a tense evening in Masindi, Vipers broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through a Donato Okello own-goal, as he deflected in an effort from Yunus Sentamu.
The second came in the 85th minute as substitutes Karim Watambala and Lawal combined, for the latter to rifle past goalkeeper Chrispus Kusiima.
Vipers will return to action on Tuesday against Maroons FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende under the lights.
