Defending champions Vipers SC were eliminated from the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the quarterfinals at the hands of Kitara FC at the Masindi Stadium, on Sunday.

Yunus Sentamu and Bright Anukani scored for the Venoms, while Paul Mucureezi needed a brace from the spot to salvage a draw for Kitara in normal time.

The hosts needed post-match penalties to win 5-4 after it had ended in a two-all stalemate in 120 minutes of end-to-end action.

Sentamu broke the deadlock early in the second half with a fine finish off Allan Okello’s run and assist.

Mucureezi levelled matters through a penalty, after defender Rogers Torach was adjudged to have fouled Jude Ssemugabi.

Into extra-time, Anukani thought he had won it for Vipers through a penalty after a hard tackle on Okello.

Minutes later, Mucureezi equalized with another penalty after a handball call from referee Ali Sabila.

Karim Watambala should have won it with the last kick of the match, but he shot wide a superb cross from substitute Abdul Nsereko.

Into the spot-kicks, Anukani, Patrick Mbowa, Hillary Mukundane and Torach converted, while Karim Watambala was denied by goalkeeper Jamil Kiyimba.
