Tuesday’s Result

SC Villa 0-0 Vipers SC

With seven rounds of Uganda Premier League action remaining to close the 2023/24 campaign, the race for the championship is heating up.

This followed an entertaining 0-0 draw between reigning champions Vipers SC and record-holder SC Villa at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Tuesday.

The result left Vipers third with 42 points after 22 games, one and two points adrift of second-placed BUL FC and leaders Kitara FC, respectively, with the latter pair playing one game more.

Villa are fourth with 41 points, while fifth-placed NEC FC have garnered 40 in 23 matches.

Meanwhile, on the evening at Wankulukuku, the Venoms and the Jogoo were evenly poised, with both sides creating decent chances to grab a goal, in vain.

Villa’s best chance came through Umar Lutalo, whose free-kick in the 85th minute was denied by a brilliant Jack Komakech save.

For Vipers, substitutes Fazil Tumwine and Yunus Sentamu missed from a touch each to break the deadlock in the dying minutes of the match.

The first half had seen Isa Mubiru, Eric Kambale and Milton Karisa threaten for the Venoms, yet they failed to glide past Villa goalkeeper Braddy Wokorach.

After the draw, Vipers will return to league action on April 19 against leaders Kitara in Masindi.

That will come five days after Vipers’ showdown with the same opponent on similar territory, but in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
