The Date: March 6th, 2024
The Contest: Vipers SC vs. Iganga Young
The Time: 4pm
The Venue: St Mary’s Stadium
Viper SC will continue to push their Stanbic Uganda Cup defence with a home Round of 16 bout against Fufa Eastern Regional League side Iganga Young FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.
The game will provide the perfect opportunity for the Venoms to get back to winning ways having endured two successive draws in the Uganda Premier League.
Vipers have been tied to barren and one-all stalemates by Gaddafi FC and Soltilo Bright Stars FC, respectively at Kitende.
“We come into this game as defending champions and we have to play like defending champions,” said assistant coach Richard Wasswa in the lead to the Iganga Young game.
In the Round of 64, we edged Lugazi Stars FC 2-1 at the Mehta Stadium, courtesy of goals from skipper Milton Karisa and attacking midfielder Allan Okello.
In the Round of 32, Vipers eliminated Rugarama FC via a 5-4 penalty shootout victory. Meanwhile, to reach this round, Iganga Young dumped Kyetume FC following a penalty shootout win.
“We are playing a team that won’t be easy as they have won so many games to reach this stage,” Wasswa warned.
“Its important that if we win it we shall advance to the next stage and also, it will give us more confidence to win more matches”
“We shall not underestimate the team. We are ready to take them on, because in such games all teams come all out. There’s no second chances.”
“We expect them to come here and fight but we’re ready to fight back and get the result we want.”
Vipers and Iganga Young have never met in a competitive showdown, and tomorrow provides the perfect slate to write history in this fixture.
