STANBIC UGANDA CUP
The Date: January 29th, 2024
The Contest: Lugazi Stars FC vs. Vipers SC
The Time: 4pm
The Venue: Mehta Stadium, Lugazi
Vipers SC will kickstart their defence for the Stanbic Uganda Cup when they visit Lugazi Stars FC at the Mehta Stadium on Monday.
The Venoms clinched the title last season as we beat Police FC 1-0, thanks to Milton Karisa’s sole goal at the John Aki-bua Stadium, Lira.
Assistant head coach Richard Wasswa has asserted the team’s readiness, for what promises to be a tricky encounter on enemy territory.
“We have prepared the team in all aspects of the game, had some good work at the pitch and the response is very positive,” Wasswa told the club media.
“The Uganda Cup is a different tournament which requires one to have a clear will. Every match you play is a final.”
“We have to go out there knowing that every team is strong. There is no team you can underestimate in the Cup.”
“We are playing an away match and that makes it very hard. The home team has the crowd and players that want to get promoted to higher levels. Players come whole-heartedly, so we expect that challenge.”
Vipers and Lugazi Stars have never met in a competitive engagement, and tomorrow provides a chance to write history in this fixture.
It should be noted that at this stage, penalty kicks will be the deciders should the game tie after 90 minutes.
