It was an evening to remember as Vipers SC wrapped up the first round of the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Busoga United at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday.
Talisman Erick Kenzo Kambale, skipper Milton Karisa and Abubakar Lawal struck to ensure that the Venoms were victorious headed into the second round.
The victory ensured that we moved to 30 points in second, just three off table leaders BUL FC, who drew 1-1 with Mbarara City FC a day earlier.
Meanwhile, it was the second successive victory for our head coach Livingstone Mbabazi, who took over about a week back.
Under the floodlights, we broke the deadlock in the sixth minute through well-struck shot by Kambale after being set by Yunus Sentamu.
The Venoms added a second in the 23rd minute with a close-range thunderbolt from Karisa following brilliant work from Kambale.
Substitute Lawal then rounded off a brilliant night from the spot after foul play on Grant Matsiko in the box.
Vipers will now return to action on January 27th, with a long trip to Adjumani to take on Arua Hill SC at the Paridi Stadium.
It will mark the first match of the second round as Vipers hopes to win a third successive championship.
