STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
The Date: January 7th, 2024
The Contest: Vipers SC vs. Busoga Utd
The Time: 6pm
The Venue: St Mary’s Stadium

In an end of the first round crunch tie, Vipers SC play host to Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League on Sunday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Venoms go into the game with full focus on picking maximum points as victory could have them lift to second position.

Victory will have Livingstone Mbabazi’s charges move to 30 points, and that will make it just three adrift of leaders BUL FC.

“We have to be focused and careful going into this match. The match on Wednesday against NEC FC is finished. We enjoyed it, that moment with our supporters at St Mary’s Stadium.” said team captain Milton Karisa.

“Now we have to focus 100% on the match tomorrow against Busoga United. They have shocked big teams and we can’t take that lightly.”

In his first game in charge of the Venoms on Wednesday, Mbabazi was victorious as we beat NEC FC 4-1, courtesy of a Fumador Asiwome hat-trick and one from Yunus Sentamu.

However, it doesn’t promise an easy tie against Busoga United, who have picked points off the likes of Kitara FC and KCCA FC already this season.

Meanwhile, we hold the lion’s share of victories in the head to head, with nine in the past 13 meetings since 2016 when Busoga joined the top-flight.

Two fixtures have ended Busoga’s way while the other two ended in stalemates.

Head-To-Head:

Meetings: 13

Vipers wins: 9

Draws: 2

Losses: 2

Goals for: 28

Against: 9

Points: 29

At the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende last season, Vipers were 5-0 winners, thanks to an Abubakar Lawal brace and one apiece from Sentamu, Martin Kizza and Bright Anukani.

Team News:

Ghanaian Fumador Asiwome was withdrawn on Wednesday after scoring his hat-trick with a strain in his calf and won’t be available for today’s match.

Hilary Mukundane is still out but on turf for the last two weeks as he continues with his rehabilitation process.
