Livingstone Mbabazi has given his first official interview since being named Vipers Sports Club head coach and has described the excitement he feels in joining the Venoms.

We sat down with the former Uganda Cranes international to discuss the beautiful moment of joining the club, linking up with some familiar faces and what he brings to the club, what the fans should expect and more.

This is a full transcript of his first interview:

What prompted you to sign with vipers SC this time after previous attempts…

First of all, I would like to thank the Almighty God. I feel excited because it’s a new challenge. This time, when they asked me, it was a simple, yes. The club asked me so many times, and I refused, but I think everything happens for a reason. It was the right moment for me to join Vipers SC.

What do you bring to the club…

First of all, bring experience. Secondly, I’m a workaholic, (and) I like to work, I like challenges. Vipers is a big brand, and I want to try out myself in a big club like Vipers.

How excited are you to work with players you’re familiar with…

I feel excited to work with them again because I have been with them on the national team. I know 80% of the players apart from the foreigners, so it’s good to see that we’re reuniting again, and we’re meeting at Vipers, a big club.

Will you be able to handle the task at hand…

I know Vipers is a big club, and I’m a big coach, but let’s not look at what I’m bringing; in football, learning never stops, and I have come to learn. Then I’ll add my little experience to the team.

What should the fans and players expect after the team’s recent struggles…

The heartbeat of the fans is a goal, so which means you score a goal, the team wins. I know the fans expect the team to win all the time, but at least we shall try our level best.

We all know, and everybody knows, that the team has lost two games. It’s a big challenge, but it depends more on the players. I want to improve on their mental fitness because they’re okay physically.

Do you think Vipers can catch up with table leaders BUL FC…

You talked of BUL FC. The good thing football isn’t a 100-metre sprint, it’s a marathon. There’s still two games remaining to end the first round, so we have to concentrate on those to get maximum points. Then we’ll wait for the second round.
