STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
The Date: January 3rd, 2024
The Contest: Vipers SC vs. NEC FC
The Time: 7pm
The Venue: St Mary’s Stadium

Vipers are pinning their hopes on new coach Charles Livingstone Mbabazi to usher in a positive start to the New Year as they prepare to face NEC FC at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday.

As the world ushered in 2024, the Venoms made a grand announcement of their new head coach, and he is set to dive straight into action in his inaugural StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) match at the ‘Home of Champions’.

The Vipers are coming off a three-game winless streak, including one draw and two consecutive losses. After a 1-1 draw with Maroons FC, they suffered defeats of 3-2 and 2-0 against BUL FC and Express FC, respectively.

“We have to admit that our form of late needs improving, and a good win tomorrow is the medicine we all need right now,” explained assistant coach Richard Wasswa.

However, the upcoming match provides an opportunity for a turnaround with the new coach at the helm. Climbing from their current fifth position with 24 points to the top three spots on the table is a significant goal.

Their opponents, NEC, also find themselves in a challenging position, having experienced three winless outings, including two draws and one defeat.

“It’s important to bounce back after a tough few weeks. We have a lot of trust and belief in our players to turn this spell around. They have trained well with the new coach and we want to change our form tomorrow,” added Wasswa.

NEC currently holds the sixth spot in the SUPL table standings with 21 points from 13 matches. Both teams lack topflight league history, with coach Hussein Mbalangu’s NEC having only joined the topflight in the current campaign.

Team News:

No fresh injury concerns for the Venoms ahead of tomorrow’s clash.
