Sunday’s Result

UPDF FC 0-1 Vipers SC

Six-time Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC managed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over UPDF FC on Sunday at the Bombo Military Barracks playground.

Colossal defender Livingstone Mulondo’s sole goal was just enough for the Venoms to pick all three points, to climb back to second on the log with 20 points in nine matches.

We currently sit four points adrift of leaders BUL FC, who beat Wakiso Giants FC 3-0.

Meanwhile, in Bombo, we nearly took a fifth minute opener, but Yunus Sentamu’s curling effort off a Bright Anukani pass, missed the target by inches.

Five minutes later, the Venoms broke the deadlock through a Mulondo shot after a defensive mix-up after a corner.

It should have been two in the 25th-minute, but Milton Karisa’s goal was denied, after a supposed foul in the buildup.

Seven minutes after restart, Sentamu should have doubled Vipers’ lead, but his effort off Abdu Lumala’s through ball, was tamed by goalkeeper Simon Mabuya.

UPDF then got reduced to ten men after a sending off to defender Aggrey Kiirya for a second bookable offense as he fouled Ghanaian forward Fumador Asiwome.

With three minutes to the 90, the visitors nearly added a second but substitute Rodriguez Shamamba was denied by Mabuya, following superb work from Asiwome and Marvin Joseph Youngman.

Following the result, Vipers will now play host to third-placed Kitara FC at the St Mary’s, Stadium Kitende on Thursday.
