Mbarara City FC v Vipers SC
Kakyeeka Stadium, Mbarara
Vipers SC will hope to extend their impressive start to the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League season, when they visit Mbarara City FC at Kakyeeka Stadium on Tuesday.
The Venoms defeated Arua Hill SC 2-0 in their last fixture at St Mary’s Stadium while the Ankole Lions come into this game after an all one draw with Express FC at Wankulukuku stadium.
Our head coach Leo Neiva has assessed tomorrow’s opponents, stressing how he expects a tough encounter against one of the League’s most tricky sides.
“Mbarara City FC is a good team, a good counter-attack team. They have a good idea of the game,” the Brazilian told Vipers Media.
“I know their situation not too much in the league having been promoted from the Fufa Big League.”
“The trick is how are we going to prepare for Mbarara City FC, mentally and physically. It’s going to be a battle.”
“We know the way they play because l watched the game when they played Express FC. So, it’s going to be a challenge. We have to be at our best again to collect the three points,” Neiva summed.
“They have good offensive players, good common defending, so we have to be creative, we have to be aware of the counter-attacks and all these things.”
In our last visit to Mbarara City in the 2022/23 campaign, we walked home 2-1 winners, courtesy of Bobosi Byaruhanga and Ibrahim Orit.
Field battles between the two teams started way back in the 2017/18 football season when the Ankole Lions gained promotion to the topflight, this fixture thus marks the 10th meeting they are facing off.
Vipers commands numerical superiority over their distant opponents with 4 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses out of the previous 10 meetings having scored 12 goals against 8 conceded in the previous contests.
