Sunday’s Result

Gaddafi FC 1-2 Vipers SC

We kicked off our 2023/24 Uganda Premier League title defence with a hard fought 2-1 away victory at Gaddafi on Sunday in Jinja.

Last season’s MVP, Milton Karisa, and our new signing from Mauritania, Mohamed Salem Ekbad, scored the two first half goals while Benson Muhindo’s penalty after the break was only good for Gaddafi’s consolation.

The Soldier Boys looked the better side in the opening minutes but Vipers soon took charge of proceedings by changing the statistic that matters most.

Karisa opened the scoring in the 27th minute when he received Yunus Sentamu’s pass and dummied Najib Tusaba before beating Dennis Ochieng in Gaddafi’s goal.

Salem made it 2-0 before half time, the Mauritanian scoring his league debut goal from a rebound after Ochieng had spilled Sentamu’s shot.

Muhindo then scored the home side’s consolation from the penalty spot on 55 minutes after Rogers Torach pulled Amos Kirya in the forbidden area in an aerial duel.

Our first home game of the campaign comes next at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende when we take on Arua Hill SC on Thursday, September 21 night (under the lights) for the first Painter’s Derby.
