Gaddafi FC v Vipers SC

Gaddafi Arena, Jinja

Vipers Sports Club will kickstart their Uganda Premier League title defence with a tricky away tie to Gaddafi FC on Sunday in Jinja.

The Venoms will be keen on making a perfect start to the campaign, well-knowing that three points come in handy and massive in trying to retain the title.

Our head coach Leo Neiva is positive all the pre-season hardwork will eventually turn into pleasant results, starting with the Sunday bout.

“It has been a good week with a lot of hardwork in preparation for Sunday,” stated Neiva as he addressed the team media.

“We have had friendly matches with Wakiso Giants and Maroons and they were good, with a lot of focus on ball possession.”

In his further honest assessment, Neiva agreed to pressure of attempting to defend two domestic titles, but asserted his team is strong enough to handle the business.

“Yes, there’s pressure of wanting to defend the title but we have to focus on winning our games.”

“We have a strong group, believe in the team and they are really good. We can actually play Ugandan national team.”

“Playing away means different grounds, different style, a lot of physical contact and things like that.”

“So shall try to play and also not lose a lot of our style on Sunday against Gaddafi.”

Our previous visit to Gaddafi at Kakindu stadium last season ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat courtesy of Alex Kitata’s long range strike.

However, the last time we played at the Gaddafi Arena in December 2021, a brace from Milton Karisa and Bright Anukani were on target as we walked away comfortable 3-1 winners.
