Wednesday’s Result

Vipers SC 2-1 Kagera Sugar FC

Vipers SC were 2-1 victors over Tanzanian side Kagera Sugar FC in an international club friendly on Wednesday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Goals from Abdu Lumala and Brazilian, Giancarlo Lopez Rodriguez were enough to guide the Kitende based side to victory. Hamis ‘Diego’ Kiiza netted Kagera’s consolation.

Vipers made a fast start and should have found the opener as early as the second minute, but Milton Karisa’s stinging shot was parried over the bar.

We finally broke the deadlock in the 27th minute through Lumala’s tap in after the Kagera defence failed to deal with an Ashraf Mandela cross.

The guests nearly found a leveler but goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza was called into action with an excellent save in the 37th minute after a well taken freekick by the eventful Diego Kiiza.

It should have been two for the hosts in the 42nd minute, but Isa Mubiru’s low drive was denied by the goalkeeper.

Lumala later in the half drifted from the left with quick feet before unleashing a goal-bound shot that was blocked by a yellow shirt.

Two minutes into the second half, Rodriguez netted a with his first touch after superb work by Yunus Sentamu.

Diego Kizza then grabbed a consolation for the guests through a 76th minute penalty, after a foul by substitute goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora.
