Vipers Sports Club will for a second year running, hold the country’s flag in the 2023/24 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League.

This was after the Kitende-based side scooped the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) trophy, for a second successive year, and sixth in history.

First on card will be the Vipers’ encounter with Botswana Premier League champions Juaneng Galaxy in the first preliminary round.

The winner after this stage will face either Djabal FC of Comoros or South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, to earn the right to play in the group stages.

Away from home

Against Juaneng Galaxy, Vipers will be away between August 18th, 19th or 20th, before the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende bout on one of 25th, 26th or 27th of August.

Meanwhile, Juaneng Galaxy was founded after the merging of Juaneng Cornets and Debswana Youngsters in 2015.

Just like the Venoms, they also qualified to the CAF Champions League for the first time in their history in the preceding season.

High on Vipers’ agenda this season is to fare better than in the previous campaign where they finished fourth in Group D, behind Horoya Athletic Club of Guinea, Tanzanian giants Simba SC and Raja Casablanca of Morocco.
