Industrious midfielder Abdul Karim Watambala has reached an agreement and signed a two-year contract extension with the Kitende-based outfit.

The Uganda Cranes stalwart who made his Vipers debut in the 2019/2020 season will now be with the club until 2025  making it six fruitful years with the club.

Across four seasons, Watambala has earned the mileage over 72 league appearances, including 18 in the last season that saw Vipers defend the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) title.

He featured 16 times in the 2019/20 season, including 21, 17 and 18 in the 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns respectively.

Promising Returns

He has netted seven times in the process, including three in the previous season. 

The most recent one came in the second last game of the previous season against BUL FC in the 1-1 stalemate, a late point that proved pivotal as the club bagged the title for a sixth time.

Watambala will certainly be expected to play an important role with the Venoms look to make a mark in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, SUPL and Uganda Cup.

Over the four years at Kitende, Watambala has won three Uganda Premier League titles and two Uganda Cups.

Watambala has never played for any other team as he came through the famous St Mary’s Secondary School, Kitende (SMASK), which is the clubs main feeder side.

The 23-year-old has also attracted several national team summons including those at the U-20 level, U-23 grade and the senior team – Uganda Cranes.
