Stanbic Uganda Cup final

Saturday’s Result

Police FC 0-1 Vipers SC

Vipers Sports Club edged a closely contested Uganda Cup final to narrowly beat Police FC 1-0 at the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium in Lira on Saturday.

Captain Milton Karisa netted the afternoon’s solitary goal to give the Venoms their first-ever double thus in the aftermath of successfully defending the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) title.

Under the scorching sun in Lira, it was a relatively slow start from either team, with no urgent probing in the final thirds as both outfits opted for caution.

Few chances

In the 10th minute, Police were presented with the first true chance to take the lead but Emmanuel Mugume failed to tap in a juicy pass from Herman Wasswa.

Three minutes later, Vipers punished the Cops with Karisa brilliantly nodding home a superb corner from playmaker Bright Anukani.

The start to the second stanza wasn’t so different from the first one as both sides continued to struggle for fluidity.

No further damage

In the 78th minute, Vipers nearly added a second but Yunus Sentamu failed to stretch an extra yard to tuck in a deflected strike from Karisa.

The league champions held on tight with some sound defensive display to edge the tie in difficult weather conditions for the partisan Venoms faithful to erupt into wild celebrations.
