STANBIC UGANDA CUP
The Date: May 30th, 2023
The Contest: Bright Stars FC vs. Vipers SC
The Time: 3pm
The Venue: Kavumba Recreation Center
Vipers SC take on Soltilo Bright Stars FC in the semi-final second leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after a dominant first leg when we trounced them 4-0 at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Bright Anukani scored a brace while Yunus Sentamu and Karim Watambala scored one apiece to assume a big advantage in the tie.
However, our head coach Alex Isabirye is not taking the game for granted as he anticipates a hugely competitive second leg at the Kavumba Recreation Grounds on Tuesday.
“I know the game won’t be easy because we lost against them in the Uganda Premier League at their home,” stated Isabirye in a media brief on Monday.
The Venoms have had a few days of jubilation after clinching the Uganda Premier League trophy, but Isabirye feels his team has put the partying aside to focus on the task at stake.
“Of course we were happy after winning the league title but I know players are professionals, the partying is done and we’re focused on the game tomorrow.”
“They know what it means to win tomorrow’s game, we have to win the game because that was my target when I came here; to win every game,” Isabirye added.
“The celebrations are done, we’re focused on tomorrow’s game because we want to play the final,” he added.
We are looking for the first ever domestic double, after clinching the League on Saturday.
We are also aiming at making the third Cup final in three years. The Venoms have won and lost one apiece in the past two seasons.
Should we progress on aggregate after two legs, we will meet Police FC, who eliminated Adjumani TC, with the final set for the Akii-Bua Memorial Stadium in Lira this weekend on June 3rd, 2023.
Team News:
Hilary Mukundane and Karim Watambala who were disqualified for Saturday’s encounter against Busoga United due to accumulated yellow cards are back in the match day squad.
Marvin Joseph Youngman, Livingstone Mulondo, Alfred Mudekereza and Murushid Juuko are all ruled out of the 2022/23 football season.
