UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
The Date: May 27th, 2023
The Contest: Vipers SC vs. Busoga United
The Time: 3pm
The Venue: St Mary’s Stadium
In an end of the season crunch tie, Vipers SC play host to Busoga United in the Uganda Premier League on Saturday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The Venoms go into the game with full focus on picking maximum points as victory could have them lift the trophy, should leaders SC Villa fail to beat URA FC tomorrow.
“We are ready and know we have to play well and shall do our level best to make sure we win tomorrow’s game,” said head coach Alex Isabirye to Vipers Media.
“We have no injuries, the players are prepared and the target always is to get three points from whichever game we play,” he added.
“In some games we’ve played we failed to hit that target, but you can see the players are always trying.”
We occupy second with 50 points, just two adrift of Villa, while we also boast a superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, Isabirye’s charges won’t expect it easy from Busoga United, as the latter managed to secure survival following their 0-0 draw with KCCA FC last time out.
The Jinja based side also beat Vipers 1-0 in the reverse fixture in the first round, courtesy of Laban Tibita’s goal.
However, we hold the lion’s share of victories in the head to head, with eight in the past 12 meetings since 2016 when Busoga joined the top-flight.
Two fixtures have ended Busoga’s way while the other two ended in stalemates.
Last season, in a similar meeting at the St Mary’s Stadium, we walked home comfortable 2-0 victors, thanks to goals from Hilary Mukundane and Paul Mucureezi.
Team News:
Hilary Mukundane and Karim Watambala are disqualified for the match tomorrow, due to accumulated yellow cards.
Marvin Joseph Youngman, Livingstone Mulondo and Murushid Juuko are all ruled out of the remaining games of the 2022/23 football season.
