UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE

Tuesday’s Result

BUL FC 1-1 Vipers SC

Vipers SC secured a late point against BUL FC to keep the Uganda Premier League title hopes alive, at the Fufa Technical Center, Njeru on Tuesday.

Karim Watambala netted in the dying minutes of the game to help the Venoms to a 1-1 draw with the Jinja based side in a game of very stakes.

Watambala’s goal cancelled Samuel Ssekamatte’s header that had looked to give the hosts maximum points.

Vipers are now second with 50 points, two behind current leaders SC Villa, who beat Blacks Power FC 1-0.

It was a cagey start in Njeru, with the hosts holding strong and firm and not allowing our characteristic sleek moves in the final third.

However, we managed to threaten in the 24th minute and should have scored but Ashraf Mandela’s strike was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Tom Ikara.

BUL also had a great chance to break the deadlock in the 38th minute but Ssekamatte’s freekick met a superb Fabien Mutombora save.

Yunus Sentamu nearly scored with first half looming, but his low shot was denied by Ikara, to leave it levelled.

While we applied pressure in the early stages of the second half , it’s the home team that scored first with Ssekamatte getting at the end of a Reagan Kalyowa cross to score past Mutombora.

Alex Isabirye’s charges then pushed for the equalizer, but without making Ikara work, with the home defence standing tall and firm.

Towards the end, Sentamu was fouled in the area, for Watambala to step up and fire in the equaliser from the spot.

We will be hoping we can win the next match against Busoga United on Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, and hope results elsewhere go our way.
