CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Friday’s Result

Horoya Athletic Club 2-0 Vipers SC

Vipers SC’s 2022/23 CAF Champions League journey came to an end in a 2-0 defeat to Guinea outfit Horoya Athletic Club in Bamako, on Friday.

Despite bowing out as the fourth in Group C with two points in six matches, the Venoms will be proud of themselves for a rollercoaster campaign that has provided plenty of lessons than regrets.

Alex Isabirye and his troops will surely reflect, regroup, fight to re-assume the continental group stage feat in a not-far-away future.

On the evening though, the home side took the early lead through Guinea Yakouba Barry’s 11th minute strike.

We then should have found a quick leveller, but pacy winger, Abdu Lumala’s strike inside the box unluckily hit the post in the 13th minute.

In the second half, defender Bashir Asiku thought he had scored in the 51st minute, but his header sailed wide by minimal margins.

In the 94th minute, Horoya found the second through Sory Traore, putting Vipers’ final dance to sad ending.

Our full focus will now shift to defending the Uganda Premier League where we currently sit fourth on the log with 28 points, nine behind table leaders SC Villa who have played four games more.

We shall also fight for the Uganda Cup in a competition that will have us take on Fufa Big League side Calvary FC at the quarterfinals.
