Wakiso Giants 1 (3)-(4) 1 Vipers SC

The Venoms progress 4-3 on penalties.

Vipers SC yet again showed their might via penalty shootouts, following another victory of the kind, eliminating Wakiso Giants FC in the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

The 4-3 shootout victory followed a 1-1 stalemate at 90 minutes, at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Tuesday.

It comes after we dumped each of Bujumbura United and Jinja North United from the round of 64 and 32 respectively, by means of a similar scale.

On the chilly evening though, Wakiso netted through Sharif Kimbowa while the Venoms restored parity through Ashraf Mandela.

The first half was not short of goalscoring threat from Alex Isabirye’s charges, but were on several occasions at the wrong side of luck as the stanza ended goalless.

In the second half though, Wakiso Giants opened the day’s account with a calm Kimbowa finish after a great pass by Marvin Nyanzi.

The Venoms then applied even more pressure and it eventually paid off, as Mandela calmly guided a Martin Kizza cut back pass past goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya.

From the spot, Bright Anukani, Kizza, Abubakar Lawal and Hillary Mukundane netted to keep Vipers’ road to glory alive .

On the other hand, George Kaddu, Rahmat Ssenfuka and Moses Aliro scored from the shoot-out for Wakiso Giants, but Norman Ogik was denied by Fabien Mutombora, while Tom Matsiko crashed his strike off the woodwork.
