UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Tuesday’s Result
Vipers SC 0-0 Wakiso Giants FC
Vipers SC shared the spoils with neighbours Wakiso Giants FC in what was the Venoms’ first match of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) second round on Tuesday.
Despite being the dominant side throughout the entire 90 minutes, the Venoms could not quite master a breakthrough on their home turf – the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The result leaves Vipers third with 28 points in 15 games, just three adrift of table leaders KCCA FC, who are on 31. It’s also one point behind the second-placed BUL FC, who have 29 points in 16 matches.
No real chances
Under the scorching sun at Kitende, Vipers had first half dominion in terms of possession, but were lacking in terms of creating clear-cut chances, with the biggest threat coming through Bright Anukani, who struck wide a Karim Watambala pass at the 25 minute-mark.
In the second stanza, substitute Desire Tety, who came on for Karim Ndugwa, nearly opened the day’s account, but he chipped a clever Martin Kizza through-ball to the side-net in the 73rd minute.
The closing stages of the game were characterized with frustration and tired legs, as both sides eventually settled for the draw.
As we seek to return to winning ways, the Venoms will return to action with a huge CAF Champions League game against East African neighbours Simba SC on Saturday, at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
