Wednesday’s Result

Jinja North United 0-0 Vipers SC

Vipers SC win 7-6 on penalties.

Vipers Sports Club stormed the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 at the expense of Jinja North United FC following a 7-6 penalty shootout win at the Kyabazinga Stadium-Bugembe, Jinja on Wednesday.

The result followed a barren stalemate after 90 minutes, with either side struggling to beat the respective goalkeepers.

Each of Desire Tety, Martin Kizza, Hillary Mukundane, Olivier Osomba, Fabien Mutombora, Isa Mubiru and Milton Karisa netted from the spot to have the Venoms book a date in the next round.

During normal time though, we missed a couple of decent scoring opportunities to leave matters leveled.

New signing Nzau Miguel Lutumba nearly opened his account in the fifth minute, but he headed inches wide a superb Yunus Sentamu freekick.

Karim Ndugwa was then denied by the Jinja North goalkeeper in the 40th minute, as his clean shot on the turn was punched over the bar.

That was after Mutombora had excellently denied the hosts a chance to take the lead with an expert save in the 25th minute.

Substitute Martin Kizza was denied at the hour-mark as a defender cleared from the goal-line, with the goalkeeper well beaten, to push matters into penalties.

Following the completion of the task, Vipers will shift focus to the CAF Champions League on Saturday against Guinea outfit Horoya Athletic Club.
