UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Friday’s Result
Blacks Power FC 0-1 Vipers SC
Ashraf Mandela netted his first goal of the campaign as champions Vipers SC outlasted Blacks Power FC 1-0 at the Aki Bua Stadium, on Friday.
After surviving an early scare where Michael Siwu nearly scored a fourth minute freekick that was saved by goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora, Vipers embarked on large spells of domination.
In search for an opener, the hungry Venoms threatened through Murushid Juuko’s eighth minute header off Karim Watambala’s freekick, but it sailed inches over the bar.
A minute to the half-hour mark, Yunus Sentamu nearly broke the deadlock, but he shot inches above the woodwork to leave it at 0-0.
Vipers were denied again in the second half as Watambala’s stinging shot recollected on the second time of asking by goalkeeper Emmanuel Odongo.
After a period of sustained pressure, Mandela’s well struck penalty following a handball in the box relieved the pressure.
In eighth with eight points, the league champions return to action against Arua Hill SC on Tuesday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
