TP Mazembe v Vipers SC
Stade TP Mazembe, Lubumbashi
Vipers SC will lock-horns with TP Mazembe in a frantic second leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Saturday.
Following the 0-0 first leg meeting at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende last Sunday, the return bout will be a do-or-die tie at Stade TP Mazembe for either team, with a place in the group stages at stake.
Our head coach, Roberto Oliveira alias Robertinho is hugely optimistic that the Venoms can pull off a positive result away in Lubumbashi.
“We didn’t come this far to lose. We are determined to give our best. Yes, TP Mazembe is a big team but we aren’t scared of them,” said the confident Brazilian to the media on Friday.
A Vipers win of any look or a stalemate with goals will see us progress. A barren draw will take the tie to extra-time or penalty shootouts.
And, Robertinho is only focused on getting what will be a famous win at the home of the five time champions.
“Everything in football is possible but we came here for the win. My players are ready, motivated and determined.”
“No one expected us to even pull a draw against this once giant in African football. We respect our opponents but this is Vipers SC time.”
Our tactician has a fully fit 18-man squad available at his disposal.
As the aggregate winner will be joining 15 other teams in the group stages, the other team will make do with a place in the Confederation Cup, the continental second-tier.
