Vipers SC can confirm that budding striker Richard Basangwa has joined Egyptian outfit, Wadi Degla Sporting Club on a three-year contract.

At the time of release to North Africa, the youngster had been sent out for a loan extension at Uganda Premier League side, Gaddafi Modern FC.

This was after his initial mid-season loan spell last season (2021/22) at the same club, which got off moments after recovering from a long injury.

Basangawa, who is a St Mary’s Secondary School Kitende product, was handed his senior debut with Vipers on 16th December 2020, in a 2-1 win game against Kitara FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

He was also a big pillar of the Uganda Hippos team that won the CECAFA U-20 tournament in Tanzania in 2020.

The same team went as far as reaching the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final in Mauritania (2021), eventually losing to Ghana 2-0.

He leaves the Venoms a full and established Uganda Cranes international.

Everyone at Vipers Sports Club thanks Basangawa for his contribution at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende and wishes him the very best for the future.
