CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Sunday’s Result
Vipers SC 0-0 TP Mazembe
Vipers SC and TP Mazembe played out a barren stalemate in the first leg of the second round in the CAF Champions League, at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday.
It was an evenly contested affair with both sides having a fair share of possession and scoring chances for the entire 90.
The visitors had the first huge chance as in the 15th minute, Ernest Luzolo Nsita threatened with a powerful shot from outside the box, but was superbly denied by our goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza.
We could have headed for the break 1-0 up, but Olivier Osomba’s header at the stroke of halftime from a Najib Yiga corner, missed the target by a few inches.
The guests threatened again in the 47th minute through Gloire Mujaya, but his header sailed up and away.
Our captain Milton Karisa combined well with Yunus Sentamu in the 50th minute, but was a little too late to add the finishing touch.
In the 67th minute, Augustine Oladapo surprised Mudekereza with a snap shot but the custodian was yet again excellent and equal to the challenge.
We continued to probe but we were limited on numbers after substitute Ibrahim Orit got forced off through injury, in the latter parts of the game.
The two will meet in the second leg on Saturday next week in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, with the winner booking a place in the Group stages.
