STARTIMES UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE
Wednesday’s Result
Vipers SC 2-0 Gaddafi FC
We will confirm our fifth StarTimes Uganda Premier League title in our next match after stretching our lead at the summit to 14 points this evening.
Cesar Manzoki, the League top scorer scored the all important goals for the venoms who are now on 61 points (14 points) above KCCA FC with just five games left to play.
Vipers SC dominated from the outset and scored with first meaningful attempt at goal as Manzoki rebounded to net from close range and put the venoms ahead in the 11th minute.
Few minutes later, Milton Karisa had a chance to double the venom’s lead but he headed high a well driven Allan Kayiwa cross at the far post.
Mukundane also tried an acrobatic kick in the 37th minute that went agonizingly wide while Kayiwa fired in a ferocious shot to Ronald Mutebi’s goal but the Gaddafi goalkeeper wonderfully palmed the ball high.
Gaddafi did not attempt any realistic shot on the opening half so youngster Denis Kiggundu was untested in the venoms’ goal.
At the restart, Vipers coach Roberto Oliviera introduced on Karim Watambala for Bright Anukani.
The second half was shot of chances as both sides struggled to impose themselves upfront.
But just at the death of the game, Manzoki completed his brace with a nice strike after he was set up by substitute Denis Mwemezi.
With this important win, we will be Champions if we win or draw (superior goal difference) in our next game against Express FC. Victory, regardless of what happens with challengers KCCA FC elsewhere, would confirm the Venoms championship.
