Saturday April 16, 2022
MTN Omondi Stadium | 4:00pm

Vipers SC make the short trip across town to face KCCA FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League at the MTN Omondi Stadium Lugogo on Saturday.

This could be a decisive game in the title race as the Venoms, on 56 points, hold a nine-point lead over their hosts who lie second.

It is also a contest between two teams that have shared seven of the last eight league titles and has often gone a long way in deciding the league champions.

KCCA and Vipers will be meeting for the 34th time in the league history and the Venoms are slightly ahead with a victory more than the hosts having 13 wins, 9 draws and 11 losses out of the previous 33 meetings, a total of 40 goals against 42 have been registered in the process making it a -2 goal difference.

Head-To-Head:

Vipers wins: 13

Draws: 9

Losses: 11

Goals for: 40

Against: 42

Points: 48

KCCA FC shifted to the MTN Omondi Stadium at Lugogo during the 2012/13 football season and out of the 9 league fixtures hosted at the venue since then, Vipers counts 3 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses with a total of 9 goals against 10.

2020/21: KCCA 1-2 Vipers

However overall, out of the 16 meetings between the two teams hosted by KCCA, the Venoms have registered 6 wins, 3 draws and 7 losses scoring 16 goals as well as conceding 18 in the process.

Last meeting at Lugogo

KCCA FC 1-2 Vipers SC

Vipers first ever victory over the Kasasiro lads was registered on September 28th, 2008 in a 3-1 win at Nakivubo stadium after 6 fruitless attempts from our debut season in the top flight division, it was courtesy of a brace by Yudah Mugalu and one from Samson Ceasar Okhuti while Brian Umony scored KCCA’s consolation strike.

The Venoms have lost only 2 league fixtures out of the previous 12 meetings against the Kasasiro lads since the 2014/15 football season and in that particular spell, Vipers command 5 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses hence will try to maintain that superiority over their opponents.

Vipers are currently occupying first position on the league log with 55 points out of the 23 matches played while KCCA are in 2nd position 9 points behind the Venoms having garnered 46 points from the same number of games.

Vipers beat KCCA FC in their second round meeting at the MTN Omondi Stadium last season and this underlines the enormity of the task for the Brazilians.

“We have a strong match against KCCA FC tomorrow. Of course at this stage, they know how we play & we know their team too.” said assistant coach Marcelo Cardoso.

“We are developing our strategy to approve this match in the best way possible inorder to get a good result. It’s very important to say that for us to have a good result isn’t a victory of course we want to win all the matches but to win a league, we have to play with results.”

In their last fixtures, Vipers secured a crucial 3-0 victory away in Ndejje against bogey side URA FC in the last fixture while KCCA FC drew 0-0 at home to hard fighting Arua Hill SC as their faithful left Lugogo crestfallen.

Team News:

Yunus Sentamu and Siraje Sentamu are back in the 18 man squad having been stretched off in our last encounter against URA FC after suffering knocks.
